Advice on buying and using Tamanu oil products
Generally speaking Tamanu oil has a smell which people describe as being "nutty", "like putty" and "spicy"
The general evidence for the effectiveness of Tamanu oil is that concentrations of the oil in any cream should be between 2% to 5%. Any stronger brings little or no additional benefit. As pure Tamanu oil is expensive it is probably wiser to buy dilutions in creams and lotions and so save money.
The oil absorbs well into the skin and leaves no oiliness or greasy feeling.
It takes about two weeks of regular usage for the Tamanu oil preparation to start taking effect in terms of skin condition, although you may notice an improvement after a week. Keep using the cream for 6 to 8 weeks if you are using Tamanu oil to reduce scar and stretch marks.
Tamanu oil is also a very effective moisturiser and there is some evidence that it reduces wrinkles so you may consider using the Tamanu oil cream or lotion long term.
